After leaving school I qualified as a sheet metal work technician, panel beater and spray painter. I then spent a number of years in the USA where I worked on the restoration of classic American cars. I later moved to Australia where I worked in the construction industry for a bespoke building company with a strong focus on high quality design, a standard which remains with me today.
Upon returning to Ireland I set up a structural steel and custom metal fabrication business with my cousin and in 2018 set up Billy Moore Metal Works.
Now with nearly three decades of experience in mechanical and metal engineering, this journey and the skills I have learned along the way fuel my passion for creating
unique functional objects of art, sculpture, furniture and lighting using old forging techniques and sometimes incorporating a more modern mechanised approach.
I mainly work in steel and draw inspiration directly from my surroundings on my family farm, my aim always to create simple, clean forms. These forms, more often than not, take their aesthetic from old Irish farm implements, vintage machinery and elements from Ireland’s industrial past.
My studio and workshop is based outside the quiet village of Ballysaggart overlooking the heritage town of Lismore, in Co. Waterford.
