Creamery Churn
Light

In September 2022, I was commissioned to create a bespoke light feature for clients who gave me full creative freedom. The clients wanted the piece to reflect the rich history and charm of their property, which once served as the local Creamery and was the central hub of the rural community.

The Concept:
Inspired by the property’s past and its beautifully manicured gardens, I decided to incorporate an old milk churn into the design, blending historical elements with a floral theme to complement the surroundings.

The Process:
I began by freehand sketching my design onto a reclaimed aluminum milk churn from the 1960s. Once satisfied with the overall artwork, I used a plasma cutter to hand-cut each intricate piece. This was followed by filling, sanding, and polishing to achieve the desired finish.

After completing the churn element, I focused on creating a suitable wall mount to complement it. Drawing inspiration from the old steel pipe ‘Stall’ work found in every milking parlour, I used repurposed 2-inch style pipes and added a rust patina to achieve an authentic look.

The Result:
The completed light feature not only illuminates but also celebrates the history and charm of the property, paying homage to its past as a vital part of the rural community. This unique piece now serves as a stunning focal point, perfectly blending the old with the new.
